It’s great that it’s skiable in several parts of England at the moment, and it’s not just us at Facewest who are getting out (more photos of the Yorkshire Dales to follow soon), Martin Panton from Marmot UK has sent us these images and a brief description of him and his mates getting out in the Lakes.
We started at the Glenridding Youth Hostel car park and skinned up the main ascent path to the bowl and head wall of Helvelyn. Crampons out and straight up the face. Skins off at the top and then three of our group descend the main gully of the face much to the delight of everybody on top of Helvelyn. I bottle it due to the very skinny ski touring skis I was using which lacked any kind of edge or support on steep ground. They descend the face and then skinned over to the ski area and descend to the car park. I walked down Swirral Edge and then skied down the way we came up. Great snow and perfect weather.
