Staff Picks – Rab Radius Pants

The Rab Radius Pants are stretch cotton canvas climbing trousers cleverly disguised as a nice pair of casual trousers. They have all the features and patterning that you need to push it at the crag, articulated knees and a crotch gusset but done in a really nice low key way so you can head to the pub after without looking like technical climber man. If like me you work for a particularly progressive company you can even wear them to work.

The ideal casual cragging pants

I’ve been trying a pair out for the past month or so now and they have quickly become my favorite trousers, climbing or otherwise. The fit is straight and slim so there’s no excess wide hem material at the bottom to restrict your view of foot placements. While slim fitting, the range of movement is amazing, there’s no feeling of restriction going for high foot moves.

The cotton canvas material they are made from is tough and durable so there are no worries about abrasion on grit edges or jamming your legs into big cracks. It’s mid weight fabric (a little thinner than denim) so is great for cooler summer/spring days, winter sessions at the wall or those rare dry winter days at the crag.

After work cragging till the sun goes down at Facewest’s local crag, Almscliff.

Featuring the five standard jeans pockets, two at the back, two at the front and the little pocket within a pocket. The best thing about the pockets is how deep they are, the front ones especially. If you like to live dangerously you can climb with a phone in the front pocket and it sits down below the leg loop on your harness providing extra security for the phone.

If you are looking for some casual trousers that you can get on an impromptu boulder problem with, or some climbing trousers that you can get away with at an impromptu pub stop, then the Radius Pants are unbeatable.

Throughout the week the staff at Facewest are constantly coming across all the stuff that’s on our website. As a result we often discover handy little features or particularly innovative or well designed aspects on many of the products we stock. Every so often they’ll be a short blog post from one of the staff at Facewest on a product they happen to have come across which really stands out, for whatever reason, as a great bit of kit.
