We’ve got a small selection of some quality Montane gear this season – it’s mostly either mountaineering kit or running kit. Here’s a quick run down of some new stuff and the popular stuff from last year.
New Fast Alpine 40 and Featherlite Alpine 35
Both these packs look excellent – simple, lightweight and with only the features you need, exactly what’s required in an alpine pack.
The Fast Alpine 40 is on the larger size for an alpine pack but it doesn’t let it’s size add to the weight as it comes in at just over 1.2kg. It has all the necessary features including an extendable lid, compression straps, multiple gear attachment points, an internal security pocket and bladder system compatibility.
A clever idea on the Fast Alpine 40 is the side panels and lid are made from a Granite fabric with two way stretch for clean tight closures – ideal for maximising space but minimizing bulk. It also as a removable back system and padded hip belt giving the option for comfort or lightness.
The Featherlite Alpine 35 is a pretty minimalist pack and comes in at just 829g – pretty light for a 35 litre pack. Despite the low weight design it should still be tough enough for full on alpine days out as it is made from 100D Robic Raptor Featherlite fabric which has an incredible strength to weight ratio. It also has a reinforced base fabric for more durability.
A great feature of the pack is that it actually stuffs away into the top lid - perfect as a secondary/summit pack. The lightweight foam pad back system can be removed, as can the hip belt, if you’re looking to really go as light as possible – fully stripped down the Featherlite Alpine 35 weighs in at only 488g. That’s light!
Terra Pants & Terra Stretch Pants
The classic Terra Pants and Alpine Stretch Pants are back again! These hardly need an introduction, they’re super popular for a reason – comfy, light, quick drying and tough. The Terra Pants are perfect for long mountain days out throughout the spring, summer and autumn whilst the tougher Alpine Stretch Pants have a slimmer fit and elasticated waistband making them ideal for alpine routes.
Minimus Waterproofs
The Minimus Pants are a standard part of the Montane range – billed as the worlds lightest and most breathable mountain pants they offer waterproof protection for the mountain runner.
The Minimus 777 Pull On is the perfect compliment to the Minimus Pants. So named because is has 7 denier 100% nylon face fabric, 7 micro laminate film and a 7 denier tricot lining it weighs in at an amazing 134g (med). The Pertex+ fabric is waterproof and sealed with micro taped seams, complete with a high stitch count for durability.
