A season worker has died in an avalanche in Tignes last week. He was snowboarding off piste with a friend who was not caught. The man was recovered by his friend using an avalanche transceiver but did not survive.
The point of this post is to remind all off piste skiers and boarders that wearing a transceiver does not protect you from avalanches. It makes you easier to find and raises your chances of survival but it is local knowledge and prudence that really protects you. If you do not know the area or the local snowfall and weather history then do not go off piste without someone who does.
